![]() What they say about Def Poetry is that it wants to bring an urban feel. And, all of them, except the special guest stars, the celebrities, are writing slam poems and performing slam poems on Def Poetry, so to me, Def Poetry is still extremely slam-informed, and I think it will probably always be. And I think most people on Def Poetry have won slams or done well in slams. I'm probably the only person to be on there who hasn't slammed. It's true that I was on Def Poetry even though I've never slammed. In a 2005 interview, Hall was quoted as saying: Hall, have acknowledged slam's influence on the show. For his fourth (and at time of writing, most recent) solo full-length, Mos reaches into the underground and scoops up cult Stones Throw beatsmiths Madlib, Oh No and Georgia Anne Muldrow. Mos Def sets himself apart from the rest of the post- Rawkus set by constantly tearing up the rulebook and thinking outside of the box, tapping into blues rock on 2004’s The New Danger and using Juvenile’s “Nolia Clap” as a vehicle for a spine-tingling indictment of the Bush Administration on 2006’s True Magic. “The way I feel sometimes its too hard to sit still / things are so passionate, times are so real” - can’t think of a more important time to repress this record than 2017.
